What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of dozens of non-psychoactive cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. Cannabidiol, and all the other cannabinoids, were patented by the United States Government in 2003 as neuroprotectants and antioxidants (Patent No. 6,630,507). Cannabinoids are characterized by their ability to act on the cannabinoid receptors that are found throughout the body. CBD and other cannabinoids are naturally occurring compounds that display potent anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. They can promote the body’s healthy regulation of the central nervous, immune, and endocannabinoid systems.

Marijuana vs. Hemp

Aren’t they pretty much the same? No, they’re not. In fact, they are different species entirely. Hemp and marijuana have different appearances, applications, and cultivating processes. While they are both members of the cannabis family, there are stark chemical differences between the two species. The primary chemical that sets these two plants apart is called THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) which is only one of 113 different cannabinoids found in cannabis plants.

THC is psychotropic, meaning it is the active element in marijuana that gets people “high”, and as such has built a reputation as a psychoactive drug, and the stigma around this chemical has impacted all the varying species of cannabis plant. Marijuana is very high in THC at 5-35%, whereas hemp contains less than 0.03% THC, making it non-psychoactive and produces no “high” effects in its users in any way (Our CBD oil usually contains even less THC at .02% or even lower).

The primary chemical in hemp is CBD (cannabidiol), which is present in marijuana but typically only in trace amounts, is non-psychoactive and has many uses beyond the scope of marijuana. Hemp has over 25,000 known uses, including skin care, clothing, construction, plastics, fuel, and many, many more. In the U.S. anything extracted from marijuana plants are considered a Schedule 1 narcotic, whereas any product derrived from hemp is unregulated, and treated altogether differently.

Hemp Oil vs. CBD

Hemp oil is not CBD, and hemp oil extract is not CBD, either. Hemp oil is extracted from the seeds, as opposed to the plant itself. CBD is collected by harvesting the entire hemp plant, grinding it down, and using CO2 to extract the CBD from the other organic materials, which separates it from any other chemicals and removes things like the trace amounts of THC that could be present in the plant’s composition. In our products, we use both CBD and hemp oil. These are combined to achieve the correct viscosity in our oils, while keeping the product 100% organic.

Why Organic?

Hemp is a bio-accumulator, meaning it naturally pulls toxins, heavy metals, and even radiation from the area around it. In fact, hemp is such an efficient bio-accumulator that it was used in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant after the meltdown to absorb radiation from the area. This is why it is so important to use only 100% organic hemp, like we do. In our hemp, there are zero toxins or any other negative chemicals because of the organic methods of growing and cultivation. Furthermore, our method of using hemp oil and CBD truly is the best, because it contains all of the original full spectrum 300 natural compounds found in cannabinoids working together for maximum benefit. Other varieties of methods of production such as synthetic CBD are far less beneficial because pure isolated synthetic CBD oil is actually caustic and will burn your skin. Hemp was always meant to be an organic, natural, eco-friendly, and healthy product. That’s why we, at Wicked Green, will always be 100% organic.
